SafePrompt ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that helps redact sensitive information in AI chat prompts. This Privacy Policy explains how SafePrompt handles information.

Summary

SafePrompt is designed to work locally on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit your prompt text, secrets, or personal content to our servers.

Information we do not collect

• Your AI chat messages or prompt content
• API keys, passwords, tokens, or other secrets you type or paste
• Browsing history outside supported AI sites
• Personal identity information for account creation (no account is required)

Information stored locally on your device

SafePrompt uses Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device to save:

• Extension settings (enabled/disabled, redact mode, rule toggles)
• Whitelist phrases you choose to allow
• Aggregate statistics only (such as detection counts and category totals)

Statistics do not include the actual secret values or prompt text. This data stays on your device until you clear extension data or uninstall SafePrompt.

How the extension works

SafePrompt runs as a content script on supported AI chat websites. It scans text you type or paste in the chat input and redacts or blocks matched sensitive patterns before you send the message. All processing happens in your browser.

• Host permissions — Allow SafePrompt to run only on supported AI chat websites where protection is needed

Third-party services

SafePrompt does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. When you use AI chat websites (such as ChatGPT or Gemini), those sites have their own privacy policies.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. We do not operate a backend service that receives your prompts or redaction data.

Children's privacy

SafePrompt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
